ST6 Experience – Overview

Check your bucket list. Year after year.

Born from the desire to showcase premiere Western Canadian mountain bike communities, Singletrack 6 features a rider-built and maintained route that changes annually. Stages are a combination of epic marathon cross-country loops with timed descents to best suit each location.

Riders will experience an exceptionally varied six consecutive days of mountain biking as they navigate singletrack that climbs to the high alpine, flows across arid desert-like landscapes and finally descends through lush rain forest.  Singletrack 6 is simply the perfect brew of cross-county riding, breathtaking climbs, panoramic vistas and epic descents. There is truly something for everyone.

Family and supporters will also be able to enjoy the festival atmosphere in each of the host communities with plenty to see and do for bikers and non-bikers alike of all ages in some of the most scenic, friendly and welcoming areas of Canada.

At Singletrack 6, you will definitely Ride the West.

Core Features:

  • The most varied mountain biking of any mountain bike stage race.

  • High percentage of ride-able singletrack.

Accommodation: Hotel options with our preferred partners in host communities or plan your own!

The Stages for 2020

2020 will be the sixth year of the Singletrack 6 experience. In the first five years we’ve discovered amazing communities and trail networks, made countless friends and experienced much that the mountains of British Columbia and Alberta have to offer.

While certain locations are established hot spots for mountain biking, new trail networks continue to be born, developed and enhanced. 2020 will be a return to some tried and true favourites, with some new surprises thrown in. We will be highlighting some of the best trail networks we’ve discovered, while also showing off some new trails, or the routes we wished we could have fit into prior years.

Our 2020 route will feature a “South Kootenays” alignment for the first time, traversing just above the 49th parallel, perhaps tempting our friends to the south to make the journey across the border! The mix will be completely new, and while some stages will be familiar to those who have ridden prior editions, there are sure to be surprises for everyone.

Pack your climbing legs and lungs and hang on for some challenging descents! As always, our priority will be to highlight the best riding in each community, while keeping the journey as seamless and efficient as possible, with plenty of options for families along the way. For international travellers there will be a Calgary arrival and Calgary or Castlegar departure option.

Stages 1 & 2 – Fernie, BC

Where it all began, Fernie hosted the very first TransRockies Challenge back in 2002 and has been a regular part of the series since then! In 2020 the Singletrack 6 returns to this authentic mountain biking community. Boasting hundreds of kilometres of prime singletrack over multiple networks, Fernie continues to build on it’s inventory of great trails! Fernie’s lively downtown features many great restaurants and bars as well as family amenities like the aquatic centre.

Stages 3 & 4 – Kimberley, BC

We first visited Kimberley in 2016 and we are stoked to be back for two stages in 2020! This somewhat hidden gem has a burgeoning bike scene - rumour has it that lots of mountain bikers are picking it as their new home town! It’s no wonder, with great trails and nordic and alpine ski areas right out your door, it’s a natural place for outdoor enthusiasts to settle down. Come see for yourself with two amazing days of singletrack riding!

Stages 5 & 6 – Rossland, BC

Also appearing for a second time at Singletrack 6, Rossland has been called “Canada’s Mountain Bike Capital”, and for good reason! This charming mountain community is literally surrounded by various trail networks, tirelessly maintained by the Kootenay Columbia Trails Society. With the move to the earlier June date, we’re looking forward to some tacky trails in Rossland!
